For the wages of sin is death; but the gift of
God is eternal life through Jesus Christ our Lord. Romans 6:23
For God so
loved the world, that he gave his only begotten Son, that whosoever believeth
in him should not perish, but have everlasting life. John 3:16 (“perish” seems to contrast with eternal
life in hell)
And the LORD
God formed man of the dust of the ground, and breathed into his nostrils the
breath of life; and man became a living
soul. Gen. 2:7 But of the tree of the knowledge of good and evil, thou shalt
not eat of it: for in the day that thou eatest thereof thou shalt surely die.
Gen. 2:17 (We are a soul, and we can
die.)
the soul that sinneth, it shall die.
Ezek. 18:4 (the soul can die)
And fear not
them which kill the body, but are not able to kill the soul: but rather fear
him which is able to destroy both soul and body in hell. Matt. 10:28 (A destroyed soul seems to contrast with
eternal life in hell)
For, behold,
the day cometh, that shall burn as an oven; and all the proud, yea, and all
that do wickedly, shall be stubble:
and the day that cometh shall burn them
up, saith the LORD of hosts, that it shall leave them neither root nor branch. [2] But unto you that fear my
name shall the Sun of righteousness arise with healing in his wings; and ye
shall go forth, and grow up as calves of the stall. [3] And ye shall tread down
the wicked; for they shall be ashes
under the soles of your feet in the day that I shall do this, saith the
LORD of hosts. Mal. 4:1-3 (These words
in bold seem to contrast eternal life in hell.)
For as ye have
drunk upon my holy mountain, so shall all the heathen drink continually, yea,
they shall drink, and they shall swallow down, and they shall be as though they had not been. Obadiah 1:16
Put not your
trust in princes, nor in the son of man, in whom there is no help. [4] His
breath goeth forth, he returneth to his
earth; in that very day his thoughts
perish. Psalm 146:3-4
For the living
know that they shall die: but the dead
know not any thing, neither have they any more a reward; for the memory of them is forgotten.
Ecclesiastes 9:5
For that which
befalleth the sons of men befalleth beasts; even one thing befalleth them: as
the one dieth, so dieth the other; yea, they have all one breath; so that a man
hath no preeminence above a beast: for all is vanity. [20] All go unto one
place; all are of the dust, and all turn
to dust again. Ecclesiastes 3:19-20
The dead praise not the LORD, neither any that go down into silence. Psalm 115:17 (silence is quite a contrast to wailing and screaming in agony in a
burning furnace forever or going to heaven and singing and playing harps)
For in death there is no remembrance of thee:
in the grave who shall give thee thanks? Psalms 6:5
Marvel not at
this: for the hour is coming, in the which all
that are in the graves shall hear his voice, [29] And shall come forth; they that have done good, unto the resurrection
of life; and they that have done evil, unto the resurrection of damnation. John 5:28-29 (Jesus tells of the 2nd
resurrection, and to marvel not.)
O that thou
wouldest hide me in the grave, that
thou wouldest keep me secret, until thy wrath be past, that thou
wouldest appoint me a set time, and remember
me! [14] If a man die, shall he live
again? all the days of my appointed time will I wait, till my change come. [15] Thou shalt call, and I will
answer thee: thou wilt have a desire to the work of thine hands. Job 14:13-15 (Job seems to have a good understanding
about the matter. And to “live again” seems to contrast with immortal souls.
And why would Job need to be “remembered” if he were to go to Heaven when he
dies?)
Behold, I shew
you a mystery; We shall not all sleep,
but we shall all be changed, In a
moment, in the twinkling of an eye, at the last trump: for the trumpet shall
sound, and the dead shall be raised
incorruptible, and we shall be changed. For this corruptible must put on incorruption,
and this mortal must put on immortality. So when this corruptible
shall have put on incorruption, and this mortal shall have put on immortality,
then shall be brought to pass the saying that is written, Death is swallowed up
in victory. I Cor. 15:51-54 (This verse
should dispel the immortal soul doctrine.)
Then shall the dust return to the earth as it was:
and the spirit shall return unto God
who gave it. Ecclesiastes 12:7 Who knoweth the spirit of man that goeth upward,
and the spirit of the beast that goeth downward to the earth? Ecclesiastes 3:21
And they stoned Stephen, calling upon God, and saying, Lord Jesus, receive my spirit. [60] And he kneeled
down, and cried with a loud voice, Lord, lay not this sin to their charge. And
when he had said this, he fell asleep.
Acts 7:59-60 (Our body and soul goes to
the grave, our spirit returns to God. These will reunite at the resurrection at
Christ’s return. Our spirit returns to God in Heaven, but we do not.)
